Board of Director Roles & Responsibilities

General Board Member
(Governance &
Fundraising)

Role Description:

  • Provide strategic oversight and uphold AWB’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Support financial sustainability through fundraising, donor cultivation, and
    sponsorship outreach.
  • Attend quarterly board meetings and serve on at least one committee.
  • Advocate for AWB within personal and professional networks.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit best practices and financial stewardship.


Ideal Experience & Skills:


  • Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, business, or community
    development.
  • Strong network in Philadelphia’s arts, business, or education sectors.
  • Willingness to make a personal financial contribution and support donor
    engagement.
  • Passion for youth development and performing arts education.


Director of Arts
Education & Curriculum

Role Description:

  • Provide expertise in arts curriculum development for AWB’s programs.
  • Ensure programming aligns with educational and artistic development for
    youth ages 5-17.
  • Work with instructors to create lesson plans, learning objectives, and student
    assessments.
  • Assist in securing grants and partnerships for arts education initiatives.
  • Review curriculum effectiveness and suggest improvements based on best
    practices.


Ideal Experience & Skills


  • Background in education, arts administration, or curriculum development.
  • Experience teaching performing arts (theater, dance, music, or vocal arts).
  • Knowledge of youth development and arts integration in education.
  • Strong writing skills for grant applications and educational materials.



Director of Community &
School Partnerships

Role Description


  • Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, youth programs, and
    community organizations.
  • Develop strategies for integrating AWB’s programs into school curricula and
    after-school initiatives.
  • Work with the fundraising team to identify and apply for education-based
    grants.
  • Promote AWB’s visibility through collaborations with local arts organizations.
  • Advocate for AWB as a key arts education provider in Philadelphia.


Ideal Experience & Skills:

  • Strong connections in education, nonprofit partnerships, or community
    organizing.
  • Experience in public relations, community outreach, or school engagement.
  • Understanding of Philadelphia school systems and youth programs.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage partnerships effectively.



Role Description:


  • Oversee AWB’s financial health, budgeting, and fiscal planning.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
  • Work with leadership to create a sustainable funding strategy.
  • Assist in grant budgeting and donor financial stewardship.
  • Provide financial transparency to the board through quarterly reports.


Ideal Experience & Skills:


  • Finance, accounting, or nonprofit financial management experience.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, audits, and nonprofit financial regulations.
  • Experience with fundraising, donor relations, or financial sustainability
    planning.
  • Ability to provide financial oversight and risk management for AWB.




Treasurer (Finance &
Fundraising)

Secretary (Governance &
Compliance)

Role Description:


  • Maintain accurate board meeting minutes and records.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit governance policies and bylaws.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing board meeting agendas.
  • Maintain key organizational documents, including contracts and policies.
  • Support board engagement by tracking attendance, committee work, and
    action items.

Ideal Experience & Skills:


  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit governance or legal compliance (preferred).
  • Ability to manage and document board operations effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.


  • Board Expectations
  • Serve a minimum one-year term July 2025 -July 2026
  • Attend 75% ofquarterly board meetings (virtual & in-person options)
  • Participate in fundraising & donor outreach
  • Support AWB’s strategic growth & mission-driven programs
